Putin did not Unleash Lions in Russia (Fake News)

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, "Nasir Chinioti" posted two photos on Twitter, one of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the other of a lion wandering on the street, claiming that Putin released 800 tigers and lions in Russia to reduce the citizens' movement. Nasir supported the measures taken by Putin and said that this will "push individuals to remain at home."

The post started spreading across all social media platforms and on several popular pages until it got about 1,200 shares on Facebook, and the tweet has amassed over 34,000 retweets.

Then the picture was traced back to April 2016, and turned out to be from South Africa's Johannesburg and has nothing to do with the ongoing pandemic.

All in all, an old picture of a lion walking around South Africa's Johannesburg was related to the story that Russia is limiting the developments of its resident leaving 800 tigers and lions roam in the streets.
